The Staff Application Security Engineer at Thumbtack will lead the technical direction for application security, developing roadmaps and addressing systemic security risks. Expertise in secure system design, modern application security tools, and practices such as threat modeling and authentication is required. Experience with cloud-native systems (AWS and/or GCP) is essential. The role demands strong analytical skills, the ability to balance risk and maintainability, and excellent communication abilities to influence and explain complex security issues to diverse audiences.

The expected salary range for candidates in San Francisco, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle is $249,900 to $323,400. For those in Austin, Washington DC, California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the range is $225,300 to $291,500. In all other U.S. locations, the range is $212,500 to $275,000. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as job level, qualifications, skills, and proficiency.
