Senior Product Counsel
Verkada is seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join its rapidly growing Legal team in Austin, TX. As a key member of the Product Legal team, this role will report to Verkada’s Assistant General Counsel for Product. The ideal candidate will have experience advising product and hardware engineering teams on legal issues throughout the product development lifecycle, particularly those related to regulatory compliance, government procurement requirements, and marketing.
In this role, you will serve as the primary legal advisor for the product, engineering, supply chain, and marketing teams, providing guidance on all legal aspects related to Verkada’s product offerings, including their development, marketing, sale, and compliance with applicable laws. You will advise company leadership on legal issues involving Verkada’s product offerings, help design and implement compliance programs, and provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies across multiple jurisdictions. Additionally, you will simplify complex, evolving legal frameworks into guidance that accelerates product delivery, enhance the product launch process to ensure new offerings are adequately protected and compliant, and serve as a subject matter expert on product-related regulatory issues, including relevant import/export and government procurement laws.
The ideal candidate will possess a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school or equivalent and be a member of at least one state bar association in good standing. They should have over six years of legal experience, including a combination of regulatory, intellectual property, product counseling, marketing, and general transactional work, with at least two years of in-house experience. Experience advising multinational, complex, fast-growing global companies, preferably with respect to both hardware and software product offerings, is essential. Expertise in areas such as federal procurement requirements for hardware and software, licensing and regulatory compliance for alarm products, and domestic and EU regulatory compliance for connected devices is highly desirable. Excellent legal and business judgment, the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines are crucial for success in this role.
