Senior Analyst, Power Markets Modeling
The Senior Analyst, Power Markets Modeling, will join Arevon's Market Intelligence team, focusing on developing and maintaining short-term production cost modeling tools. This role is pivotal in forecasting nodal prices across all Independent System Operators (ISOs) and assessing the impact of grid changes on Arevon's operational fleet. The analyst will collaborate closely with internal teams to develop grid and market scenarios, evaluating outcomes across various sensitivities.
Key responsibilities include maintaining production cost models with market and in-house perspectives, overseeing daily backcasting processes by integrating weather and fuel inputs, and collaborating with Market Operations and Origination teams to incorporate specific market views. The analyst will perform scenario analyses to characterize input sensitivities, develop approaches for modeling batteries and emerging large load generation patterns, and analyze drivers of Day Ahead and Real Time congestion market outcomes. Additionally, the role involves identifying model gaps by calibrating results to market outcomes and developing automated reporting tools to communicate market insights, risks, and opportunities.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline, along with a minimum of three years of experience in electricity markets within consulting, commercial, engineering roles, or at an ISO. The role requires a team-oriented and collaborative individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can see projects through to completion. Proficiency in numerical Python programming is essential.
Preferred qualifications include proficiency in programming tools and quantitative modeling analytics using Python, Visual Basic, Matlab, R, and SQL. Experience with data science, machine learning techniques such as regression and classification, and familiarity with databases like Snowflake or MS SQL Server are advantageous. Exposure to industry data platforms such as YES Energy, Genscape/Wood Mackenzie, Enverus, and experience with business intelligence tools like Tableau or PowerBI are also desirable.
