As a Tech Lead, Machine Learning Engineer within Wayve's AV Product Engineering team, you will lead the navigation workstream for our end-to-end autonomous driving system, encompassing L2+, L3, and robotaxi products. This role offers the unique opportunity to oversee the entire pipeline, from model training to deployment in production vehicles, within a small, high-impact team. You will set the technical direction for navigation machine learning and have significant growth potential as the team expands.

Key responsibilities include leading the navigation workstream, which involves route planning, rerouting, and driving across various autonomous driving products. You will train and deploy end-to-end models for navigation and driving features, owning the full lifecycle from model training through vehicle integration to production deployment. Additionally, you will define the roadmap and technical vision for navigation machine learning within the AV Features team, collaborating closely with Evaluation, Robot Software, and Data Platform teams to iterate rapidly and improve model performance. Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and shaping the long-term technical direction are also integral parts of this role.

The ideal candidate will have over seven years of machine learning engineering experience with a strong track record of deploying deep learning systems to production. Proficiency in Python and other relevant languages such as C++ and CUDA, along with experience in machine learning frameworks like PyTorch, is essential. Hands-on experience with transformer-based and multimodal architectures, including vision-language models, is required. A strong understanding of end-to-end learning approaches for driving, embodied AI, or related domains, and the ability to take full ownership of a technical workstream from research through to production deployment, are crucial.

This full-time position is based in our Sunnyvale office, operating under a hybrid working policy that combines in-office collaboration to fuel innovation and relationships, with time spent working from home. Wayve is committed to creating an inclusive interview experience; if you require any accommodations or adjustments to participate fully in our interview process, please let us know. We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences, and we encourage you to apply if you're passionate about self-driving cars and believe you can make a positive impact on the world.
