Staff Software Engineer, Public Sector
Scale AI is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic Federal Engineering team. In this role, you will play a critical part in developing AI-powered solutions tailored for government clients, leveraging Scale's modern and cloud-native AI infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in designing and implementing systems that can handle vast amounts of data with exceptional performance, directly impacting mission-critical operations.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for orchestrating the implementation of features across the Federal engineering team to ensure architectural consistency. This includes defining technical strategies for agentic guardrails, explainability, and fleet orchestration. You will also ensure system reliability and performance across multiple security classifications and network types, mentor engineers in defining requirements with stakeholders, and communicate high-level technical trade-offs and implementation strategies to senior government stakeholders and Scale's executive team.
The ideal candidate will have proficiency in full-stack development, including experience with modern web development frameworks, programming languages, and databases. Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and experience in developing and deploying applications in a cloud-native environment is essential. Knowledge of ETL processes, data modeling, and data governance principles is also required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, and a willingness to embrace new technologies and adapt to evolving project requirements are crucial for success in this role.
Compensation packages at Scale for eligible roles include base salary, equity, and benefits. The base salary range for this full-time position varies by location, with ranges such as $252,000 to $362,000 USD in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle; $227,200 to $326,000 USD in Hawaii, Washington DC, Texas, and Colorado; and $188,800 to $272,000 USD in St. Louis.
