Staff Hardware Engineer
Sony Interactive Entertainment's Cloud Gaming Engineering and Infrastructure (CGEI) division is at the forefront of the cloud gaming revolution, delivering console-quality video games to a variety of devices, including TVs, consoles, and mobile platforms. Within this division, the Hardware & Systems Engineering team is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to contribute to the development of custom scale-out computing solutions. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment focused on innovation and technical excellence.
The Senior Hardware Engineer will collaborate with both local and remote partners to design and develop custom computing hardware tailored for scale-out gaming applications. Key responsibilities include managing the entire design cycle for gaming hardware, working with external partners to meet hardware specifications, and integrating system-level solutions with existing and novel architectures. The role also involves end-to-end printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) design, including schematic and VHDL-based design, as well as hands-on laboratory work for new hardware bring-up and laboratory management.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), with a Master of Science (MSEE) or PhD preferred. A minimum of 5 years of proven hardware design experience and technical leadership is required. Proficiency with tools such as Jira and Confluence in both waterfall and Agile environments is essential. Strong communication skills are necessary to articulate technical information clearly across various levels, from executive staff to engineers. The role demands a solid understanding of digital electrical design and deep knowledge of high-speed protocols, including PCIe, DDR5/6, Ethernet, and USB4. Experience with widely-used electrical design tools and the ability to build, debug, and troubleshoot high-performance hardware systems are also required.
The estimated base pay range for this position is between $177,300 and $265,900 USD annually.
