Staff Engineer, Backend
As a Staff Engineer at Headout, you will play a pivotal role in driving architectural excellence and technical strategy across multiple product engineering teams. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing low-latency systems that support dynamic pricing strategies, processing large-scale inventory data across tens of thousands of products, and managing a vendor ecosystem that includes nearly half a million vendors. You will lead efforts to reduce technical debt, improve deployment stability, and build resilient system architectures that enable sustainable scaling. Collaborating closely with Engineering Managers, you will influence critical architectural decisions and mentor other engineers to elevate technical standards across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of software development experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on backend systems and distributed architectures. Proficiency in backend technologies such as Spring Boot, Kotlin, and Java is essential. A strong foundation in distributed systems concepts, including scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability, is required. Experience with modern distributed technologies like Kafka, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and AWS is highly desirable. Additionally, prior experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives across teams is important.
