The Software Engineer - OS & Kernel, Robot Software position at Wayve involves developing and maintaining the company's bespoke embedded Linux distribution and kernel drivers for their on-road development fleet. The role is part of the Robot Software team, which is responsible for the software enabling autonomous driving and data collection for training new driving models. Wayve, founded in 2017, is a leading developer of Embodied AI technology, focusing on creating intelligent, mapless, and hardware-agnostic AI products for automakers.

Key responsibilities include owning the creation and maintenance of Linux kernel and device drivers, collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to build appropriate solutions, and developing high-quality, reliable software in C++. The role also involves creating robust, fault-tolerant software solutions with comprehensive system diagnostics to ensure the deployed fleet operates at maximum capacity. Additionally, the engineer is expected to lead by example, demonstrating best practices in testing, documentation, and collaboration.

The ideal candidate should have proficiency in developing high-performance embedded Linux systems software in C and C++, with the ability to manage the complete software development lifecycle. Familiarity with embedded Linux, build systems like Yocto, and user space application software development is essential. Strong debugging skills and a solid understanding of IPC mechanisms for high data throughput robotics applications are also required. Experience with robotics or automotive frameworks such as Nvidia Jetson or Nvidia Drive, and embedded real-time operating systems like QNX, is desirable.
