Box is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Storage Clients team, which is responsible for developing and maintaining the gateway services that facilitate content uploads, downloads, and collaborations across the Box platform. This role is pivotal in ensuring seamless content access for millions of users worldwide, operating on an exabyte-scale infrastructure spanning multiple GCP and AWS regions.

In this position, you will design, build, and maintain backend services using Java, Scala, and PHP to support critical content ingress and egress flows. Your responsibilities will include modeling best practices for system architecture, ensuring reliability and scalability, planning and executing projects aligned with quarterly deliverables, measuring system performance to identify and optimize bottlenecks, actively participating in Agile ceremonies, conducting code reviews to uphold quality standards, and participating in the on-call rotation to address and triage any arising issues.

The ideal candidate will possess a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent work experience, along with over 5 years of experience in developing distributed systems. Proficiency in backend languages such as Java or Scala is essential, as is a passion for building highly available and scalable systems. Strong problem-solving skills, a data-driven approach to technical challenges, and a sense of ownership in both technical and team interactions are highly valued. Proficiency in English is required.
