Senior Software Engineer - Search

AlphaSense is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Search team, responsible for developing high-performance distributed systems that power our market intelligence platform. This role involves building the next generation of information retrieval systems at scale, utilizing modern technologies such as hybrid lexical and vector search. You'll collaborate with a team of skilled engineers dedicated to enhancing how customers discover insights.

In this position, you will architect and optimize infrastructure capable of handling billions of documents and hundreds of queries per second. Key responsibilities include leading the migration from legacy systems to modern architectures with zero downtime, establishing comprehensive monitoring and testing practices, and profiling and tuning systems to balance cost and performance effectively.

The ideal candidate has over five years of experience building and operating distributed systems in production environments. Required expertise includes large-scale data platforms, distributed systems fundamentals like sharding and replication, performance optimization skills, and experience with data pipeline architecture or database internals. Preferred qualifications encompass experience with search platforms such as Vespa, Elasticsearch, or Solr, familiarity with Kubernetes and infrastructure as code, and a background in information retrieval or ranking systems.

The compensation range for this role is $169,000 to $232,000 annually, with potential equity and a generous benefits program. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise.
