As a Senior Software Engineer I in the Europe Risk and Controls team at Wise, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our services comply with financial regulations and meet local requirements across Europe. This team is dedicated to maintaining the reliability and availability of Wise's financial services through proactive risk assessment and the development of comprehensive risk management infrastructure. By enabling compliant financial services with minimal friction, the team supports Wise's mission to provide secure and reliable financial solutions to customers throughout the region.

In this role, you will be responsible for building controls and automations that allow Wise to expand its product offerings to more individuals and businesses across Europe. Your day-to-day activities will include understanding and addressing the root causes of problematic payments and customer difficulties, raising the level of automation to scale the product effectively, and collaborating closely with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, engineers, and other product teams to develop solutions to technical challenges and opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5+ years of experience with Java or other JVM-based languages, proficiency with the Spring framework, and a deep understanding of JDBC and database internals. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, distributed and concurrent systems, and both relational and non-relational databases is essential. A strong product mindset, passion for user experience, and the ability to work independently on customer problems are crucial. Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences are also important.

Wise offers a starting salary of €5,750 to €7,166 gross per month, along with RSUs in a rapidly growing company.
