Senior Counsel, Security and Technology
Coinbase is seeking a Senior Counsel to join its Security and Technology Legal team, which serves as the primary advisor to the global security and technology infrastructure teams. This role focuses on incident response reporting obligations and information technology/security program governance in regulatory contexts, as well as security provisions in contracts for vendors and customers. The position is remote within the United States, with in-person participation required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites.
Key responsibilities include working closely with business executives and security/technology teams to ensure compliance with U.S. and international e-money, payment services, and financial services laws and regulations. The role also involves providing legal guidance to international operating entities, advising on new regulatory and policy trends in digital currency and cybersecurity, and managing outside counsel effectively.
Candidates should be qualified attorneys with approximately 6 to 10 years of experience in cybersecurity law, preferably within a regulated e-money, payment services, or financial services institution, or in a law firm supporting such clients. Strong familiarity with existing and upcoming cybersecurity regulations is essential, along with the ability to manage complex projects across multiple time zones and tight deadlines. Experience in the crypto industry is a plus but not required.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $224,995 to $264,700 USD, excluding equity and bonus. Total compensation may also include equity, bonus eligibility, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
