Director, Associate General Counsel (Commercial Legal)
Coinbase is seeking a Director, Associate General Counsel (Commercial Legal) to join its Commercial Legal team. This role involves leading complex commercial transactions and collaborating closely with the Business Development team to set industry precedents in the crypto sector. The position is remote within the United States, with in-person participation required throughout the year for team and company-wide offsites.
Key responsibilities include negotiating innovative agreements with strategic partners in finance, payments, and digital currency, providing practical legal advice on complex issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Business Development, Product/Engineering, Finance/Tax, and Compliance. The role also involves developing strategies to address risks in business-centric ways and building commercial processes that facilitate business flexibility and accelerate deal timelines.
Candidates should have a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent, with at least 12 years of relevant transactional experience in-house or at a leading law firm. An interest in digital currency and blockchain technology is essential, along with excellent commercial drafting and negotiation skills, strong judgment, analytical rigor, and business pragmatism. Experience structuring complex transactions and commercial agreements with strategic partners in the tech, payments, and/or finance sectors is required, as well as management and leadership experience.
The target annual base salary for this position ranges from $302,090 to $355,400 USD, excluding equity and bonus components. Total compensation may also include benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) plans.
