Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property
Coinbase is seeking a Senior Counsel for Intellectual Property to join its dynamic legal team. The position is remote within the United States, with occasional in-person participation required for team and company-wide offsites.
The Senior Counsel will be responsible for developing strategies to defend Coinbase in high-stakes IP disputes and shaping the company's patent portfolio. Key duties include collaborating with innovators to harvest inventions, managing patent preparation and prosecution, overseeing outside counsel, and performing IP due diligence. The role also involves advising on legislative and judicial developments in IP and engaging in thought leadership within the field.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent, with at least five years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, or litigation, preferably with a strong emphasis on patent litigation. A deep understanding of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology is essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong communication skills and the capacity to distill complex matters into clear language are also required.
The compensation package includes an annual base salary ranging from $224,995 to $264,700 USD, excluding equity and bonus eligibility. Additional benefits encompass medical, dental, and vision plans with generous employee contributions, a 401(k) plan with company match, wellness stipends, and the option to receive compensation in digital currency.
