Principal Software Engineer, Enterprise Scalability

Klaviyo is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead enterprise scalability initiatives, focusing on performance, reliability, multi-region, and large-tenant readiness. This individual contributor role reports directly to a VP of Engineering and is pivotal in driving platform-wide architectural changes and optimizing systems to support the company's growth.

The Principal Software Engineer will define enterprise scalability metrics, design and implement strategies for sharding, partitioning, caching, and multi-region readiness, and build tools such as benchmarks and profiling harnesses. They will lead scalability reviews, drive incident analyses, and integrate AI into scalability and resiliency efforts to ensure sustained performance improvements.

Candidates should have over 12 years of experience scaling multi-tenant SaaS platforms, with expertise in performance engineering, capacity planning, and high-volume migrations. Proficiency in applying AI tools for profiling, workload modeling, and anomaly detection is essential. Strong cross-organizational influence and clear communication skills are also required.

The base salary for this position ranges from $244,000 to $366,000 annually, depending on factors such as skills, experience, and location.
