Principal Software Engineer
AlphaSense is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and reliability of our global financial data extraction and normalization platform. This system ingests filings across various formats, extracts and standardizes financial data using AI and deterministic systems, and delivers trusted outputs at scale to downstream financial services teams and customers. The role involves reducing human dependency by enhancing system correctness, confidence, and trust without compromising speed or scalability.
Key responsibilities include owning the architecture and evolution of the data extraction platform, designing systems that process large volumes of records across heterogeneous sources with high reliability, and implementing strategies to minimize human-in-the-loop validation through AI-based validation, confidence scoring, and deterministic safeguards. The engineer will also establish clear system contracts for correctness and traceability, balance AI-driven approaches with procedural systems to improve reliability, and address architectural and operational bottlenecks impacting scale and accuracy.
The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience building and operating large-scale production systems, with proven expertise in designing data ingestion, extraction, or processing systems at scale. Deep knowledge in areas such as distributed systems, data platforms and pipelines, AI/ML-powered extraction or classification systems, or platform/infrastructure engineering is essential. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to design trustworthy systems combining probabilistic and deterministic approaches, possess a strong understanding of system reliability and observability, and have experience reducing operational overhead through better system design. A track record of technical leadership across teams without formal management is also desired.
