Machine Learning Manager, App SW

Wayve is seeking a Machine Learning Manager to lead its new Japan-based Application Engineering team, focusing on localizing and advancing autonomous driving technology for the Japanese market. This role offers the opportunity to build and guide a team of engineers specializing in robotics, machine learning, and systems integration, ensuring the autonomous vehicle stack performs safely and effectively within Japan's unique road infrastructure and regulatory environment.

Key responsibilities include recruiting and mentoring top talent, developing autonomy features tailored to Japanese driving norms, and acting as the primary liaison between the Japan office and Wayve's headquarters to align roadmaps and communicate local insights. The role also involves full-cycle development from identifying local autonomy needs to deploying features into production, maintaining high engineering standards, and collaborating closely with OEM partners and internal product and vehicle operations teams in Japan.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in robotics and autonomy, with experience in building and deploying real-world systems. Proven leadership in growing high-performing engineering teams, especially in distributed or independent settings, is essential. The role requires comfort with ambiguity, broad technical fluency across software engineering and machine learning, excellent communication skills, and strong product sense with stakeholder management abilities.
