Lead Software Engineer - Mobile Channels
The Lead Software Engineer position at Klaviyo focuses on the Mobile Channels team, which is responsible for powering text messaging across the company's platform, including SMS, RCS, WhatsApp, and other emerging channels. This team builds the infrastructure that ensures high-throughput and reliable message delivery, connecting Klaviyo customers to their audiences through fast and personal communication channels.
In this role, the engineer will provide technical leadership to a group of engineers, driving the technical strategy and owning critical components of the mobile messaging delivery infrastructure. Responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable, high-throughput services in Python and Go, ensuring reliable delivery at scale while managing compliance with carrier regulations and international messaging standards. The role also involves collaborating cross-functionally with product, deliverability, compliance, and platform teams to expand mobile channel capabilities.
Candidates should have over 8 years of engineering experience with strong backend and systems design skills, proficiency in Python and/or Go, and experience working with high-throughput distributed systems. A strong business and product mindset is essential, along with the ability to bring clarity to ambiguous requirements and drive incremental delivery. Experience with SMS/MMS infrastructure, RCS, WhatsApp Business API, carrier integrations, telecom APIs, or messaging compliance is a plus.
The position offers a base salary range of $176,000 to $264,000 USD, with the total compensation package potentially including participation in the company's annual cash bonus plan, equity, and a comprehensive range of health, welfare, and wellbeing benefits. The role is based in Boston, MA, following a hybrid work model with three days in the office and two days remote per week.
