Lawyer, Competition, Consumer + Market Regulation
Gilbert + Tobin is seeking a Lawyer to join its Competition, Consumer, and Market Regulation (CCMR) practice in Sydney. As a leading Australian law firm with over 500 lawyers, Gilbert + Tobin is renowned for handling complex transactions, regulatory matters, and disputes. The CCMR team is one of the largest in Australia, providing strategic advice to clients on high-stakes transactions and complex litigation.
In this role, the successful candidate will engage in a variety of tasks, including managing mergers and acquisitions with ACCC clearances, addressing competition law issues in joint ventures and strategic alliances, and representing clients in ACCC investigations and enforcement proceedings. Additional responsibilities encompass handling criminal investigations under the Competition and Consumer Act, advising on access regimes and economic regulation, assisting with regulatory design for government entities, contributing to legislative reforms, and addressing consumer protection issues such as misleading conduct and unconscionability.
The ideal candidate will possess 4 to 7+ years of post-admission experience in competition law and regulatory matters. Strong drafting and advisory skills, superior technical knowledge, and a genuine interest in competition and consumer law are essential. The ability to work effectively with clients, both autonomously and within a team environment, is crucial. A desire for rapid development and progression within the firm is also highly valued.
