Gilbert + Tobin is seeking a Lawyer specializing in Financial Services Regulation to join their Sydney office. This role is part of the Financial Services Regulation team led by Partner Silvana Wood, a recognized expert in the field. The firm is known for advising Australia's leading banks, insurers, fintechs, and funds on complex regulatory challenges, offering lawyers exposure to work that intersects law, policy, enforcement, and innovation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of financial services regulatory matters, including AFSL/ACL licensing, Chapter 7 obligations, DDO, breach reporting, consumer law, claims handling, and unfair contract terms. Additionally, the role involves advising on governance and accountability frameworks under the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) and Banking Executive Accountability Regime (BEAR), conducting internal and regulatory investigations, and supporting compliance transformation initiatives. The lawyer will also provide strategic advice on regulatory reforms and assist fintechs and payment providers navigating the evolving regulatory landscape.

Candidates should have 4-7 years of post-qualification experience in financial services regulation, with a strong understanding of AFSL/ACL licensing, consumer credit laws, and governance frameworks. Experience in regulatory investigations, compliance transformation, and advising on regulatory reforms is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional analytical and drafting skills, a proactive approach to complex matters, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
