Intermediate Backend Engineer, SSCS: AI Governance
As an Intermediate Backend Engineer on the AI Governance team at GitLab, you will contribute to developing a paid product tailored for regulated enterprise organizations. This product aims to audit, govern, and ensure compliance for AI agent usage within GitLab. Your work will directly impact customers by enhancing visibility into AI agent activities and establishing governance controls that enterprise clients depend on.
Your primary responsibilities will include implementing well-defined backend features across the AI Governance product area. This encompasses developing event normalization utilities, enhancing storage layers, adding API endpoints, supporting data exports, and integrating registries. You will also be responsible for building and maintaining automated test coverage using RSpec or similar tools to ensure reliability and facilitate consistent releases.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in backend development, particularly with Ruby on Rails, and a solid understanding of PostgreSQL. Proficiency in building and maintaining automated test coverage with RSpec or equivalent frameworks is essential. Effective written communication skills are crucial for collaborating in GitLab's asynchronous environment. Experience with audit event systems, telemetry pipelines, or compliance-focused tooling is advantageous. Familiarity with GraphQL APIs, event-driven architecture patterns, Python, or data-focused databases like ClickHouse is also beneficial.
