Senior Legal Counsel, APAC
As Senior Legal Counsel for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region at GitLab, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating the company's growth across diverse markets. Reporting to the Director of Legal, Commercial, you will collaborate closely with regional Sales teams and cross-functional partners to navigate complex commercial agreements and cross-border legal matters. This position offers the opportunity to shape GitLab's transactional strategies within the APAC region, ensuring legal clarity and compliance while supporting business objectives.
Your primary responsibilities will include negotiating intricate commercial and technology contracts across APAC markets, encompassing SaaS, software, partnerships, services, consulting, marketing, licensing, data privacy, and AI-related agreements. You will manage strategic transactions across multiple jurisdictions, balancing legal risks with business needs, and provide clear legal guidance to internal stakeholders and external partners. Additionally, you will develop and maintain region-specific templates, playbooks, and policies to enhance consistency in contracting practices.
The ideal candidate will possess a J.D. or equivalent legal qualification with active bar membership or licensure in a relevant jurisdiction. You should have substantial experience in commercial and technology transactions within APAC markets, either in a law firm or in-house legal setting. Proficiency in negotiating complex agreements across multiple APAC jurisdictions, including familiarity with Japanese contracting practices, is essential. Strong skills in managing cross-border transactions, assessing legal risks, and providing business-focused guidance are also required.
