Legal Engineer
As a Legal Engineer at GitLab, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the Legal & Corporate Affairs team and the technical systems that support their operations. This position involves designing and implementing AI-powered workflows and integrations to enhance the efficiency and scalability of legal processes within the company. GitLab is a leading DevSecOps platform trusted by over 50 million users and more than half of the Fortune 100, committed to enabling organizations to develop secure software faster.
In this role, your primary responsibilities will include developing automated workflows for tasks such as contract review, compliance monitoring, and data retention. You will create custom AI prompts and decision trees to support various AI use cases within our integrated tools. Collaborating with internal AI and machine learning teams, you will embed legal logic into broader company automation and tooling. Additionally, you will manage technical aspects of the legal technology stack, including contract lifecycle management and compliance platforms, while evaluating and integrating new legal technology solutions.
The ideal candidate will have experience in building or significantly customizing legal technology systems beyond basic administration. A solid understanding of in-house legal workflows, including contracts, compliance, and matter management, is essential. Proficiency with technical tools such as contract lifecycle management platforms, workflow automation tools, SQL or database querying, API integrations, or scripting languages like Python or JavaScript is required. Strong communication skills are necessary to translate between legal, technical, and business stakeholders effectively. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Sales, Finance, Security, Trust & Safety, or People is also important.
GitLab offers a comprehensive benefits package to support your health, finances, and well-being. The company operates in an all-remote, asynchronous work environment, providing flexible paid time off, team member resource groups, equity compensation, an employee stock purchase plan, a growth and development fund, parental leave, and home office support.
Joining GitLab means becoming part of a high-performance culture driven by core values and continuous knowledge exchange.
