German Language Manager
Canva is seeking a German Language Manager to join their International Supergroup, a cross-functional team dedicated to driving growth and deepening adoption across key regions worldwide. This role is a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Berlin, Germany, with a focus on enhancing the Canva experience for German-speaking users by ensuring culturally resonant and accurate localization of content.
The German Language Manager will collaborate with the Country Localization Lead to develop and maintain Canva's voice across all German-language product areas. Key responsibilities include translating essential content, managing relationships with localization partners, developing and updating style guides and glossaries, reviewing and evaluating translations, providing cultural insights, identifying opportunities for localization improvements, assessing and sourcing new language service providers, answering linguistic questions, and triaging results of scripted testing.
Ideal candidates will possess strong writing skills, a passion for languages and cultures, and an understanding of how these elements impact user experience. An entrepreneurial spirit with a strong bias towards action and ownership is essential. While specific experience is valued, energy and adaptability are prioritized over years of experience. Additional desirable qualifications include copywriting experience, expertise with computer-assisted translation tools (especially Smartling), familiarity with marketing technology stacks (such as Braze, WordPress, and Canva), a solid understanding of organic growth (SEO), design experience or familiarity with design tools, and tertiary education in linguistics, literature, or localization.
