Machine Learning Engineer - Training & Dataset Platform (AU remote)
Canva is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join the AI Capabilities team within the AI Platform group. This team focuses on developing and enhancing the datasets and tools that facilitate large-scale AI feature development across Canva. The role involves close collaboration with machine learning engineers, applied scientists, product teams, and platform teams to streamline AI development processes and ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable AI features.
In this position, the engineer will be responsible for building and improving data pipelines, dataset tooling, and platform components that support machine learning training and evaluation. Key tasks include implementing quality controls to enhance data trustworthiness, debugging issues across data and machine learning workflows, and contributing to engineering standards such as code quality and operational readiness. The role also emphasizes improving developer experience for dataset discovery, usage, and experimentation to support rapid iteration and deployment of AI models.
The ideal candidate should have experience working with large datasets, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, and evaluation techniques. Proficiency in programming languages like Python and familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch are essential. Strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking about model performance and trade-offs, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are also important.
