Financial Crime Compliance Specialist (Advisory)
The Financial Crime Compliance Specialist (Advisory) at Capital on Tap is a pivotal role within the company's Financial Crime function, which is responsible for managing financial crime policies, procedures, and controls. This team operates independently from the first line Financial Crime Operations team, providing oversight, challenge, governance, and handling escalations that may lead to reporting or offboarding decisions. The position is based in London, with a hybrid working arrangement requiring three days per week in the Moorgate office.
In this role, you will support the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) in overseeing Capital on Tap's compliance monitoring programme. This includes designing thematic reviews and control tests to assess the effectiveness of first-line financial crime controls. You will also maintain and develop Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) policies, procedures, and risk appetite standards, ensuring they are updated in response to regulatory changes and internal findings. Additionally, you will lead the second line of defence (2LoD) financial crime review of new product and change initiatives, providing independent risk assessments and recommendations to the MLRO prior to go-live. Your responsibilities will also encompass producing management information and compliance reporting for senior leadership and relevant governance committees, as well as supporting horizon scanning activities to translate regulatory changes into practical impact assessments for the business.
To be considered for this position, candidates should have at least three years of experience operating in a second-line financial crime or AML compliance function within a regulated UK financial services firm, with a particular focus on business customers. Experience in first-line case management or predominantly retail banking is not suitable for this role. A strong working knowledge of the UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017, Joint Money Laundering Steering Group (JMLSG) guidance, and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) is essential. Candidates should have experience designing or running a compliance monitoring or control testing programme, contributing to or owning a financial crime risk assessment at a business or product level, and be comfortable presenting findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders and governance forums. Sharp analytical thinking and clear written communication skills are necessary, as the role involves writing reports and policy documents that the business acts upon. The ability to work independently and constructively challenge the business when controls fall short is also required.
