Field Engineer
The Field Engineer at Wayve is a hands-on technical role focused on diagnosing and resolving vehicle software and hardware issues to maintain fleet operations. This position is integral to the Fleet Operations team, ensuring rapid fault triage and adherence to safety protocols. Wayve, founded in 2017, is a leader in Embodied AI technology, developing advanced AI software and foundation models that enable vehicles to navigate complex environments, thereby enhancing the usability and safety of automated driving systems.
Key responsibilities include performing on-site fault diagnosis and resolution to maintain fleet uptime, following structured repair protocols, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot technical issues. The Field Engineer is expected to respond rapidly to issues, meeting a 5-minute response time, and participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 global support. Maintaining clear communication with the Field Engineering Lead and adhering to strict safety and compliance protocols are also essential aspects of the role.
Candidates should possess strong technical expertise in vehicle diagnostics, software and hardware fault triage, and repair processes. Experience in fleet operations, automotive systems, or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology is advantageous. The role requires problem-solving skills, the ability to work efficiently under strict service level agreements, and effective communication and collaboration abilities. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, software monitoring platforms like Datadog and Mender, and ticketing systems such as JIRA is also desirable.
This full-time position is based on a rotating shift pattern, including weekends, with early shifts from 06:00 to 15:00 and late shifts from 13:00 to 22:00. The role is on-site at Wayve's office in Yokohama, Japan. Additional requirements include disclosing any secondary employment during the application process, undergoing health checks, and passing training, pre-employment checks, and ongoing drug and alcohol testing in accordance with company policy.
