Recharge is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead two engineering squads focused on enhancing the merchant end-user experience. One squad concentrates on data analytics products, while the other focuses on design systems and the merchant portal. This role involves prioritizing feature delivery, ensuring adherence to design patterns, and fostering the professional growth of team members. The Engineering Manager is expected to stay closely involved with the work, including code reviews and technical decision-making.

Key responsibilities include directly managing six engineers across the two squads, staying engaged in merge requests and day-to-day engineering quality, and actively unblocking engineers both technically and organizationally. The role also involves partnering cross-functionally with product and stakeholders to maintain team focus and quality, as well as experimenting with and establishing AI tooling practices to scale the team's output.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience shipping production software, preferably recently as an independent contributor, and comfort in React or Python codebases, preferably both. They should be someone who reads the code, not just the ticket, and have a bias to action with a low tolerance for unresolved ambiguity. A genuine curiosity about how large language models (LLMs) and AI tooling are changing how engineers work is also desired.
