Klaviyo is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the development of Customer Agent, a conversational AI system designed to enable brands to interact with their customers at an unprecedented scale. This role is pivotal to Klaviyo's vision for AI-powered customer engagement, delivering real-time, contextually aware conversations that assist brands in supporting, converting, and retaining millions of consumers. The position is based in Boston, MA, with a hybrid work arrangement.

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading and managing a team of full-stack and AI engineers, directly overseeing certain workstreams. Key responsibilities include collaborating on project planning, defining achievements, identifying dependencies, and ensuring business goals are met. The role also involves actively participating in interviewing, hiring, and team development, as well as developing and executing technical strategies aligned with Klaviyo's business objectives. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to understand needs, resolve blockers, manage expectations, and translate customer requirements into valuable AI-driven roadmaps and solutions is essential. Additionally, the manager will advise the team on modeling, system design, experimental design, and implementation decisions, while improving engineering-wide processes such as recruiting, performance development, communication, and agile development.

Candidates should have experience building AI-driven product features in a full-stack capacity and leading teams that have built scalable systems. A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering and at least 2 years of experience managing engineering teams, including remote members and lead engineers, is required. Exceptional communication skills are necessary to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and translate business and product roadmaps into AI-driven technical roadmaps and solutions that add significant customer and business value. The ideal candidate is motivated to grow the team by developing current members and attracting new talent, eager to engage with code, understand the product area, and provide applicable technical mentorship. An in-depth understanding of common engineering architectures for highly scalable systems and a proven ability to lead and deliver complex, multi-quarter projects involving at least two teams are also important. Comfort conducting performance reviews and mentoring team members at all levels is expected.

The base salary range for this position is $176,000 to $264,000 USD annually. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may include participation in the company's annual cash bonus plan, variable compensation for sales and customer success roles, equity, sign-on payments, and a comprehensive range of health, welfare, and wellbeing benefits based on eligibility. This role may require up to 10% travel for purposes such as new hire onboarding, client or partner work if applicable, team meetings, and industry events, with travel coordinated in advance.
