Engineering Manager - Conversational AI Platform
Klaviyo is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Conversational AI Platform team, which is responsible for developing an AI-powered conversational experience that enables customers to plan, create, edit, and iterate on their marketing strategies within the Klaviyo application. This team manages the native chat interface, the agent orchestrator, and the agentic UI framework that integrate with other teams across the company. The role offers the opportunity to directly impact over 170,000 brands that utilize Klaviyo daily to engage with their customers.
The Engineering Manager will lead a full-stack team responsible for delivering customer-facing features across Klaviyo's Conversational AI Platform. Key responsibilities include setting the technical direction for the orchestrator that handles intent detection, routing, planning, and multi-step LLM workflows across various expert agents. The role involves overseeing end-to-end execution, driving architectural decisions that prioritize scalability and reliability, and collaborating closely with Product and Design teams to translate vision into intuitive user experiences. Additionally, the manager will foster cross-team collaboration to ensure the seamless integration of AI agents and contribute hands-on through design documentation, code reviews, and technical explorations.
Candidates should have over 8 years of software engineering experience with strong frontend and backend skills, and at least 5 years of engineering management experience, ideally leading full-stack teams. Proficiency with frontend technologies like React, TypeScript, and state management tools such as Redux is required, along with experience in backend systems using Python and frameworks like Django or FastAPI. The role demands expertise in system design, reusable component architecture, and scalable frontend platforms, as well as familiarity with DevOps tooling, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and Terraform. A proven track record of delivering complex features in fast-paced, product-led environments and experience designing or leading systems that utilize LLMs, tools, or agent-like workflows are also essential.
The position is based in Boston, MA, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring three days per week in the office. The base salary range for this role is between $176,000 and $264,000 per year.
