Engineer II, Backend
OpenTable is seeking an Engineer II, Backend to join our OASIS team, which is responsible for the restaurant onboarding process, including activation and sales integration services. This team manages both front-end and back-end services for onboarding and activations, playing a crucial role in expanding our global restaurant network. As part of OpenTable, a leader in online restaurant reservations with over 25 years of experience, you'll contribute to technology that empowers restaurants and enhances dining experiences worldwide.
In this role, you will participate in technical and architectural decisions to ensure our platforms are scalable, highly available, reliable, and performant, especially during peak traffic periods. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to build and design OpenTable’s identity and access platform for restaurants globally. Your responsibilities will include developing new features, maintaining existing codebases, and ensuring the seamless integration of services that support restaurant partners.
The ideal candidate has over 5 years of experience in backend software engineering, building distributed applications. Proficiency in Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Hibernate is essential. Experience with large-scale, distributed, service-oriented, and event-driven architectures is required, along with a strong understanding of observability, monitoring, performance, high availability, scalability, reliability, and security principles. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are necessary, as is experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Git. A disciplined approach to unit, integration, and acceptance testing, along with strong problem-solving skills and experience in agile methodologies, is also expected.
