Embedded Software Engineer / Tech lead, Onboard Test Automation
As an Embedded Software Test Engineer / Tech Lead at Wayve, you will play a pivotal role in validating onboard software systems prior to full-vehicle testing. You will work across various embedded compute platforms and operating systems to ensure software reliability, integration, and readiness for real-world deployment. This high-impact position directly enhances software quality and accelerates iteration across multiple teams. Your efforts will focus on building automated tests and empowering developers to validate their work earlier in the development cycle.
Key responsibilities include designing, developing, and executing automated tests for onboard software subsystems such as operating systems, middleware, sensors, and integration points. You will validate software behavior on embedded hardware platforms within hardware-in-the-loop environments and collaborate with software engineers to identify test gaps, building coverage for new and existing features. Additionally, you will debug and triage system-level issues across software and hardware boundaries, enable developer self-service testing by contributing to continuous integration pipelines and reusable test frameworks, and support the expansion of test coverage by leveraging existing validation tests earlier in the development cycle.
The ideal candidate will have experience testing embedded software systems, preferably on Linux or QNX-based platforms, and possess strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages for test development and automation. Experience working with embedded hardware platforms and understanding hardware/software interactions is essential, along with a proven ability to debug and triage complex issues across system layers. A solid understanding of software testing principles, including automation, integration testing, and system validation, is also required.
