Director, Product Design - Hospitality & Restaurant Platform
OpenTable is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead the design efforts across our Hospitality & Restaurant Platform teams. This senior leadership role involves managing a global team of nine designers, including two direct reports, and collaborating closely with cross-functional partners to deliver impactful experiences for restaurants and diners worldwide. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Product Design & Research, this position plays a pivotal role in shaping our user experience strategy and fostering a culture of innovation within the organization.
Key responsibilities include leading and developing a high-performing design team by mentoring and supporting designers and design managers to achieve their best work and career growth. The role also entails setting and maintaining design quality standards from initial concepts through to product launch, collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Research teams to align on direction and deliver user-centric outcomes, and defining and communicating a compelling design vision to stakeholders through effective storytelling and presentations. Additionally, the Director will identify and address process inefficiencies in partnership with UX and product development leadership and employ a data-driven approach to inform design decisions at all levels.
The ideal candidate will possess hands-on product design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating impact at scale, deep expertise in both native apps and web experiences, exceptional visual design skills, and strong systems thinking. Strategic and communication skills are essential, including proficiency in stakeholder management, building alignment across multiple teams, and delivering compelling presentations to executive audiences. A proven track record of growing and mentoring designers and design managers, fostering collaboration, and building trust across disciplines is also required. A growth mindset, characterized by data-driven decision-making and a commitment to continuous improvement, is crucial for success in this role.
Compensation for this United States-based role ranges from $220,000 to $275,000 annually, with eligibility for an annual bonus and equity grant. Benefits include health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement benefits, life insurance, paid time off (including PTO, paid sick leave, medical leave, bereavement leave, floating holidays, and paid holidays), and parental leave benefits. Additional perks encompass company-paid therapy sessions, a subscription to Headspace, an annual company-wide week off, paid parental leave, generous paid vacation, paid volunteer time, development dollars, leadership development opportunities, access to on-demand e-learnings, travel discounts, employee resource groups, free lunch five days per week, and a beautiful office in the Empire State Building with various amenities.
OpenTable fosters a global and dynamic work environment, accommodating a workforce operating across multiple time zones. While most responsibilities align with conventional business hours, there may be instances requiring communication outside regular working hours to collaborate with international colleagues, respond to restaurant partners, or address urgent matters. OpenTable is committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive, building a team as dynamic as the diners and restaurants we serve, and fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome to be themselves.
