Director, Product Design - Hospitality & Restaurant Platform
OpenTable is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead the design efforts across our Hospitality & Restaurant Platform teams. This senior leadership role involves managing a global team of nine designers, including two direct reports, and collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Design Systems, and Brand teams to deliver impactful experiences for restaurants and diners worldwide. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Product Design & Research, this position plays a pivotal role in shaping our user experience strategy and execution.
The Director will be responsible for leading and developing a high-performing design team by managing, mentoring, and supporting designers and design managers to achieve their best work and career growth. Key responsibilities include setting and driving design quality standards from initial concepts through to product launch, partnering cross-functionally to align on direction and build consensus, defining and communicating a compelling design vision to stakeholders, improving design processes by identifying and addressing friction points, and utilizing data to inform design decisions at every level.
Candidates should possess hands-on product design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating impact at scale, deep expertise in both native apps and web experiences, exceptional visual design skills, and strong systems thinking. Strategic and communication skills are essential, including proficiency in stakeholder management, building alignment across multiple teams, and delivering compelling presentations to executive audiences. A proven track record in growing and mentoring designers and design managers, fostering collaboration, and building trust across disciplines is also required. A data-driven and intellectually honest approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement for oneself, the team, and the products, is highly valued.
OpenTable offers a competitive base salary and benefits package, including health benefits, flexible spending accounts, retirement benefits, life insurance, paid time off (including PTO, paid sick leave, medical leave, bereavement leave, floating holidays, and paid holidays), and parental leave benefits. This role is also eligible for an annual bonus and equity grant. Additional perks include the flexibility to work from almost anywhere for up to 20 days per year, company-paid therapy sessions through SpringHealth, a subscription to Headspace, an annual company-wide week off for team recharge, generous paid vacation, time off for birthdays, paid volunteer time, development dollars, leadership development opportunities, access to thousands of on-demand e-learnings, travel discounts, and participation in Employee Resource Groups.
At OpenTable, we pride ourselves on fostering a global and dynamic work environment. As a team member, you will benefit from a schedule tailored to accommodate a global workforce operating across multiple time zones. While the majority of responsibilities align with conventional business hours, there will be instances requiring communication outside of regular working hours to effectively collaborate with international colleagues, respond to restaurant partners, and address urgent matters. OpenTable is committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive, building a team as dynamic as the diners and restaurants we serve, and fostering a culture where everyone feels welcome to be themselves.
