Director of Engineering, AI

Klaviyo is seeking a Director of Engineering, AI to lead the development and implementation of AI-powered capabilities across its platform. This role involves overseeing the AI engineering team, defining technical vision, and ensuring the successful integration of AI into Klaviyo's products to enhance customer outcomes.

The Director will be responsible for designing and evolving the AI platform, including the architecture for LLM-powered and agentic systems. Key responsibilities include orchestrating tool/function calling, retrieval and memory, evaluation harnesses, observability, and safety guardrails tailored for real-world product workflows. Additionally, the role involves shipping AI-native product experiences by collaborating with Product, Design, and partner engineering teams to prioritize high-value use cases and launch intuitive and powerful features.

Candidates should possess a strong background in AI engineering, with experience in modern LLMs and agent patterns. Proficiency in building and operating AI systems at scale is essential. The role requires a product-minded engineering leader who can translate technical strategies into measurable customer impact. Experience in leading high-performing engineering teams, setting clear expectations, and fostering a culture of urgency and accountability is also crucial.
