Data Protection Officer

Capital on Tap is seeking a Data Protection Officer to lead its Data Protection team in Cardiff. This strategic leadership role involves guiding the company through complex data protection regulations while enabling business objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with various departments, including Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Commercial teams, to ensure compliance without hindering innovation.

Key responsibilities include serving as the primary authority on data protection, providing strategic guidance to senior leadership, and ensuring full compliance with UK GDPR, DPA 2018, PECR, DUAA, CCPA/CPRA, and emerging regulations. The role also involves implementing AI technologies and automation tools to streamline data protection activities, conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), managing data breach responses, and embedding privacy-by-design principles across all technology platforms.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in UK data protection regulations, strong technical fluency, and a pragmatic, problem-solving approach. They should possess a risk-based mindset that acts with urgency, ensuring that data protection processes enable the business without causing delays. Experience in leading high-performing teams and fostering a culture of innovation and business partnership is essential.
