Corporate Counsel
Ursa Major, a pioneering aerospace and defense company based in Berthoud, Colorado, is seeking a Corporate Counsel to join their dynamic legal team. The company specializes in high-performance propulsion systems, including hypersonics, solid rocket motors, and satellite maneuvering. The Corporate Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel and play a pivotal role in supporting the company's rapid growth and evolving legal needs.
In this role, the Corporate Counsel will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of complex commercial contracts, such as government contracts, non-disclosure agreements, purchase and supply agreements, consulting and services agreements, and information technology and software license agreements. They will collaborate with various departments to address contractual issues, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and align contract negotiations with Ursa Major's policies and objectives. Additionally, the Corporate Counsel will identify and evaluate business and legal risks, develop mitigation plans, and contribute to the creation and implementation of internal and external company policies and procedures.
Candidates should possess a Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school and have at least eight years of legal experience, with a preference for prior in-house experience. The ability to obtain a top-secret security clearance is required. Ideal candidates will have experience advising on and addressing contractual and legal issues before and after contract completion, with a strong attention to detail in written communication and contract drafting. Business acumen to balance legal risk with Ursa Major's goals, a service-oriented attitude, and the ability to make complex legal issues clear to the team are essential. Familiarity with the aerospace industry, experience scaling a high-growth startup, intellectual property and licensing expertise, and experience in a highly regulated industry are preferred.
The base compensation for this role ranges from $125,000 to $165,000 annually, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
