Principal Engineer, Propulsion Systems
Ursa Major is seeking a Principal Engineer, Propulsion Systems to lead the technical definition, integration, and execution of propulsion systems for hypersonic vehicles. This role is pivotal within the engineering team, offering ownership from early concept through flight demonstration and production transition. Ursa Major is dedicated to revolutionizing high-performance propulsion systems, addressing critical national security demands.
The Principal Engineer will be responsible for the clean-sheet design and analysis of fluid and mechanical vehicle components, including tanks, feed systems, propellant management, and fluid systems. Key duties involve supporting rapid development cycles, designing modifications to enhance performance and manufacturability, collaborating with manufacturing and test teams to reduce part-to-part variation, and assembling and testing first article prototypes. Additionally, the role includes leading propulsion subsystem architecture, managing requirements and verification plans, and supporting ground and flight test planning and execution.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, along with over 12 years of experience in propulsion systems engineering or propulsion-focused vehicle development. Demonstrated experience with hypersonic, missile, or high-performance aerospace vehicles is essential. A strong understanding of propulsion system architecture and integration, vehicle-level performance impacts, and requirements development and verification is required. Proficiency in computer-aided design and drafting, experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5, and hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems are also necessary. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance is mandatory.
The position offers a competitive salary range of $170,000 to $215,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
