Wayve is seeking a Control Engineer to join its Germany-based Application Engineering team, focusing on localizing and advancing the company's autonomous driving technology for the German market. This role involves integrating, validating, and optimizing Wayve's model predictive control (MPC)-based trajectory controller and AI software stack on new vehicle platforms to ensure safe, reliable, and high-performance driving across diverse real-world conditions.

Key responsibilities include integrating and validating Wayve's AI software stack and MPC-based trajectory controller on customer hardware and vehicle platforms. The engineer will maintain and enhance the controller, coupled with machine learning-driven trajectory generation, to improve performance, stability, and reliability across different vehicles and environments. Additionally, the role involves establishing and advancing control and integration methods for machine learning-coupled systems, ensuring robustness and scalability across operational domains. Testing and optimizing system behavior in challenging driving scenarios, from highways to urban settings and adverse weather conditions, is also a critical aspect of the position. The engineer will develop and refine simulation and evaluation pipelines to guarantee real-world optimality and control quality, collaborating with cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve integration and performance issues.

The ideal candidate will possess strong theoretical knowledge of control theory, optimization, model-predictive control, state estimation, and numerical methods. Practical experience in developing and tuning control systems for physical systems, both in simulation and in real-world applications, is essential. Experience in productionizing and scaling systems, including real-time controllers and monitoring their performance at scale, is also required. Proficiency in C++ and Python is necessary. Experience with control, dynamics, and modeling of road vehicles is desirable.

This full-time role is based in Leonberg, Germany, and offers a hybrid working policy that combines time in the office and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships, and learning, along with time spent working from home. Wayve operates core working hours, allowing employees to determine the schedule that works best for them and their teams.

Wayve is committed to creating a diverse, fair, and respectful culture that is inclusive of everyone based on their unique skills and perspectives. The company values diversity, embraces new perspectives, and fosters an inclusive work environment, backing each other to deliver impact. This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of controls, systems integration, and applied machine learning, helping expand autonomous vehicle capabilities across new operational domains while collaborating closely with robotics, machine learning, and vehicle engineering experts.
