Applied Scientist, Wayve Labs
Wayve is seeking an Applied Scientist to join Wayve Labs, a high-conviction research team dedicated to developing the next generation of AI systems for autonomous driving. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of machine learning, simulation, robotics, and real-world deployment, contributing to core innovations that push the boundaries of embodied AI.
In this position, you will be responsible for developing world models and planners using approaches such as diffusion-based, autoregressive, or hybrid methods to create realistic and consistent simulations. You will advance reinforcement learning and reward modeling by building scalable and safe learning frameworks across real and synthetic data. Additionally, you will develop geometric foundation models for 3D spatial understanding in dynamic, real-world environments and enable cross-embodiment robotics by leveraging multimodal foundation models to accelerate robotic learning on diverse platforms. Conducting empirical research on scaling laws, generalization, and sim-to-real transfer, as well as defining and evolving evaluation frameworks and benchmarks for long-horizon prediction, scene fidelity, and driving performance, will also be key aspects of your day-to-day work.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience developing and deploying machine learning systems in real-world or production settings. A PhD, Master’s degree, or equivalent experience in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, or a related field is required. Deep expertise in one or more core embodied AI areas, such as foundation models (e.g., transformers, MoE, large-scale training), generative world modeling (e.g., diffusion, autoregressive, hybrid approaches), reinforcement learning (e.g., offline RL, RLHF, reward modeling), or spatial AI (e.g., SLAM/SfM, depth estimation, multi-view geometry with multimodal sensors), is essential. A track record of publications at top-tier conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, CoRL) and strong programming skills in Python, with experience using frameworks such as PyTorch, are also required. A data-centric mindset, with experience working on large-scale datasets and evaluation, is highly valued.
Wayve offers attractive compensation with salary and equity, immersion in a team of world-class researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs, and a unique position to shape the future of autonomy and tackle the biggest challenge of our time. Bespoke learning and development opportunities, relocation support with visa sponsorship, and flexible working hours are also provided. Additional benefits include an onsite chef, workplace nursery scheme, private health insurance, therapy, daily yoga, onsite bar, large social budgets, unlimited learning and development requests, enhanced parental leave, and more.
At Wayve, your contributions matter. We value diversity, embrace new perspectives, and foster an inclusive work environment; we back each other to deliver impact. Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!
