AI Engineer (Research & Development)
Bandwidth's Research & Development (R&D) team is seeking a highly motivated AI/ML Engineer to join their dynamic group in Raleigh, NC. The R&D team operates as a small, agile unit, focusing on transformative technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to define the next generation of communication experiences.
In this role, the AI Engineer will dive deep into the latest AI/ML research, particularly in the Large Language Model (LLM) space, identifying opportunities relevant to Bandwidth's domain. Responsibilities include designing, building, and testing proof-of-concepts and prototypes for novel AI-powered features and services, implementing and integrating AI/ML models into potential future offerings, and collaborating within a cross-functional R&D team. The engineer will also experiment with various AI techniques, stay updated on the evolving AI landscape, and leverage LLM-powered development tools to accelerate the innovation cycle.
Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, ML, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Demonstrable expertise in AI and Machine Learning, with deep knowledge in at least one specific AI domain (e.g., NLP, LLMs, Speech Recognition), is required. Applicants should have at least 3 years of experience designing, building, and evaluating AI/ML models and systems, strong programming skills in Python, and familiarity with common ML libraries/frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and Hugging Face. A solid understanding of Large Language Models and associated concepts, along with experience implementing services or applications built on top of foundational LLMs, is also essential.
