Sr. Network Operations VoIP Engineer (Platform & SRE)
Bandwidth is seeking a Senior VoIP Engineer to join its Network Operations team. This role focuses on ensuring reliable, secure, and automated SIP connectivity across multiple carrier platforms and enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in SIP and carrier-grade environments, viewing infrastructure through the lens of Software Reliability Engineering (SRE).
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing automation to reduce operational burden, utilizing tools like Ansible/AWX and Terraform for voice service provisioning and scaling, and conducting detailed interoperability testing between carrier platforms and open-source SIP implementations. The engineer will also design and maintain SIP trunking solutions with multiple carriers, act as the highest-level escalation point for complex SIP/RTP issues, and collaborate with network and security teams to integrate SIP services through proxy servers and modern routing policies.
Candidates should have at least 5 years of hands-on VoIP engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on carrier-grade SIP environments. Expert-level knowledge of SIP signaling, SDP negotiation, and RTP/RTCP is required. Proficiency in Python, Bash, or Ansible for automating provisioning and troubleshooting workflows, experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, and hands-on experience with open-source SIP proxies and traditional SBCs are also necessary. Strong Linux administration skills and proficiency with diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, sngrep, and Homer/HEP are essential.
