Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager at Box's Tokyo office plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting and operational accounting. This position is integral to managing daily accounting activities, maintaining compliance with local and US laws and regulations—including SOX and statutory reporting—and collaborating closely with the US headquarters and other teams on various initiatives.

Key responsibilities include overseeing daily accounting operations such as general ledger, accounts payable, expenses, fixed assets, and cash management. The role involves preparing journal entries, resolving errors, executing month-end and year-end close processes, and performing profit and loss and balance sheet variance analyses. Additionally, the Accounting Manager is responsible for preparing Japan statutory financial statements and tax filings per local GAAP, handling audit requests, and ensuring compliance with consumption tax and local regulations.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a CPA (Japan or US) or Certified Public Tax Accountant certification. They should possess over five years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a multinational or global company, and have familiarity with US GAAP and local Japanese accounting standards. Experience with SOX controls, internal audit processes, and operational accounting—including accounts payable and fixed asset management—is essential. Proficiency in Japanese and business-level English is required to effectively communicate with both Japanese and English-speaking stakeholders.
