Axiom is seeking highly skilled and detail-oriented Utilities Lawyers to support our clients, many of which are leading energy service companies across the U.S. This remote position focuses on attorneys with strong regulatory and transactional experience in the California utilities sector, particularly those with experience before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

In this role, you will advise on regulatory compliance and filings before the CPUC and other state and federal regulatory bodies. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of California-specific utility agreements, such as Retail Electricity Supply Agreements, Load Serving Entity (LSE) Contracts, Power Distribution and Transmission Agreements, Interconnection and Grid Access Agreements, Wheeling Agreements, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Contracts, Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and Smart Grid and Metering Contracts. Additionally, you will provide legal support for CPUC rate case filings, tariff implementation, and procurement compliance, collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel on infrastructure, construction, and maintenance contracts related to California utility assets, support IT and digital transformation initiatives, including smart grid and metering technologies, and advise on legal matters involving California-based IOUs, public power entities, transmission operators, load aggregators, and large commercial/industrial utility customers.

The ideal candidate will have 5–15 years of legal experience, focusing on California utilities, energy regulation, or infrastructure. Demonstrated experience with CPUC proceedings and filings is essential, along with a strong understanding of California-specific regulatory frameworks and utility contracting. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Preferred qualifications include experience working in-house at a California electric utility, power distribution company, or energy service company (ESCO). Familiarity with California energy procurement, rate cases, and compliance obligations is advantageous, as is a background in infrastructure, construction, or IT contracting within the California utilities sector. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to advise cross-functional teams, are also desirable.

The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles ranges from $104,500 to $325,000 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs. Employees may be eligible for additional benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance; paid holidays and PTO; flexible work arrangements; and professional development opportunities and tools.
