The Telco Field Engineering Director at Canonical leads the global Telco Field Engineering business, assisting customers in understanding and implementing Canonical's open-source solutions across public clouds and private data centers. This role is integral to the Telco department, which comprises regional teams in APAC, EMEA, and the Americas, and focuses on a spectrum of cloud offerings, including Ubuntu, virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and advanced open-source solutions like MLOps platforms and data platforms.

Key responsibilities include leading and developing managers and teams of field engineers in presales and professional services, solving customer problems by promoting Canonical's technologies, and serving as a trusted advisor. The director will work remotely within a major time zone, coach and mentor team members, implement disciplined engineering processes, represent the team and products to stakeholders, and collaborate with other leaders to plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough technical understanding of the telco NFVi (VIM), NFVO, VNFM, and MEC space, along with key telco cloud infrastructure technologies such as CPU Pinning, NUMA, SR-IOV, and DPDK. Familiarity with telco architecture and industry standards, working knowledge of domains like Mobile Packet Core (4G/5G), Private Network, RAN, Voice, IP Backbone, VAS, or OSS/BSS, and knowledge of cloud computing technologies like Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, and Ceph are essential. Practical knowledge of Linux and networking, experience in technical presales, and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are also required.
