Tax Assistant - Indirect Taxation (GST, VAT and Withholding Tax)
Clifford Chance, a leading global law firm, is seeking a Tax Assistant to join their team in India, focusing on Indirect Taxation, including GST, VAT, and Withholding Tax. As a Tax Assistant, you will provide day-to-day support to the tax team, primarily handling indirect tax (VAT) and withholding tax (WHT) queries, with additional exposure to other tax matters as required. Your responsibilities will include building effective working relationships with finance and billing teams globally, assisting in documenting and improving VAT/GST reporting processes, supporting internal VAT office reviews, and ensuring alignment with local laws and firm policies. You will also support the review and update of global tax policies, assist in providing tax support for business projects, and respond to tax authority queries and audits.
The ideal candidate will have some experience or an academic background in tax, accounting, or finance, ideally with exposure to indirect taxes such as VAT or GST. You should be currently studying or intending to study towards the ATT qualification, with the opportunity to progress to ACA or CTA qualifications over time. A strong work ethic, proactive approach, and a genuine willingness to learn are essential. The role requires good written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, strong attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
