Superintendent, MEP
The Superintendent, MEP at Hut 8 is responsible for overseeing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) field execution during the construction of new data centers. This role involves managing day-to-day site operations in high-stakes, mission-critical environments, ensuring that all MEP systems are installed and function according to Hut 8's standards. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager and Director of Construction, the Superintendent plays a pivotal role in driving project schedules, coordinating various trades, and upholding safety and quality from the initial mobilization through to project turnover.
Key responsibilities include supervising the installation of medium and low-voltage distribution systems, such as switchgear, transformers, generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), busways, power distribution units (PDUs), and branch circuits. The Superintendent enforces strict standards for cable management, terminations, torque documentation, grounding, and labeling. Additionally, they coordinate acceptance testing and energization sequencing with other team members. In terms of mechanical and cooling systems, the role involves overseeing the installation of chilled water plants, air and liquid cooling systems, computer room air handler (CRAH) and computer room air distribution (CRD) units, piping, insulation, and hydronic balancing. Managing pipe flushing, pressure testing, and maintaining cleanliness protocols are also critical to prevent contamination in critical cooling loops.
The ideal candidate will have over seven years of experience supervising electrical and/or mechanical trades on data center, semiconductor, hospital, or heavy industrial projects, with a strong preference for mission-critical environments. A solid understanding of medium and low-voltage power distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, and hydronic/liquid cooling plants is essential, including familiarity with testing and energization practices. Experience in driving commissioning prerequisites and turnover documentation within a live commissioning program is required. The candidate should possess strong trade-sequencing skills in congested, schedule-critical spaces and be proficient in planning and manpower loading. Leadership in safety practices, including knowledge of NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and energized-facility transitions, is necessary. Additional qualifications include expertise in pipe cleanliness, flushing, and pressure-testing disciplines for critical hydronic systems, as well as comfort with Procore/ACC, BIM field use, and comprehensive MEP drawing packages.
