Strategy and Operations Lead, Risk & Insurance
The Strategy and Operations Lead for Risk & Insurance at Waymo plays a pivotal role in managing and mitigating risks associated with autonomous driving technology. This position is integral to Waymo's mission of becoming the world's most trusted driver by ensuring comprehensive risk management strategies are in place. The role is based in Mountain View, California, San Francisco, California, or New York City, New York, and reports to the Head of LRIP Strategy and Operations, with a strong dotted line to the Head of Risk & Insurance.
In this capacity, the individual will serve as the central Project Manager for the Risk & Insurance team, orchestrating internal workflows, tracking team-wide objectives, and ensuring the timely execution of core initiatives and operational goals. They will lead the annual budgeting process and financial tracking, oversee crucial reporting structures—including Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) and claims metrics—to ensure fiscal discipline and transparency. Additionally, the role involves acting as the primary strategic bridge between the Risk & Insurance team and other internal teams, such as Technical Program Management (TPM) and Product Management (PM), to drive the implementation of complex technology, data, and insurance and claims-related projects. The individual will also partner with claims and actuarial teams to design and deploy custom tooling, data visualization dashboards, and automated operational workflows that enhance team productivity and data-driven decision-making. Furthermore, they will oversee the full lifecycle of critical regulatory and operational documentation (e.g., ID Cards, Certificates of Insurance) and lead the end-to-end onboarding and management of external partners, including Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) and brokers. Strategic stakeholder engagement is also a key responsibility, involving the development and leadership of a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy for internal and external partners, including the management and delivery of quarterly insurance insights and newsletters. The role also includes directing the end-to-end coordination and project management of high-profile internal and external showcases, including the planning and execution of flagship events.
Candidates should possess experience in insurance operations, claims administration, risk management, or a similar complex operational environment. Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-functional timelines, orchestrate internal workflows, and track team objectives (OKRs) is essential. Experience guiding data and tooling projects—defining business requirements for dashboards and automation—is also required. Operational execution skills, including managing vendor lifecycles (contracting, onboarding, performance tracking) and critical documentation (filings, Certificates of Insurance), are necessary. Excellent written communication skills for executive reporting, with experience managing financial tracking (budgets) or Quarterly Business Review (QBR) processes, are important. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to thrive in a hyper-growth, high-velocity environment, are crucial. A background in the mobility or autonomous vehicle sector is preferred.
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $158,000 to $200,000 USD annually. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
