Staff Data Scientist - Growth
As a Staff Data Scientist in the Growth Supergroup at Canva, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how the company measures, optimizes, and accelerates progress toward its foundational goals. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to unlock insights, drive experimentation, and influence strategic decisions at scale. Your work will directly impact Canva's understanding of commercial metrics by designing causal models that link input metrics—such as feature exposure and engagement—to revenue and Monthly Active Users (MAU).
Key responsibilities include designing and building causal models to quantify relationships between input metrics and company goals, partnering with data science and analytics teams to design experiments testing causal hypotheses, and owning the causal layer of Canva's Metrics Tree. Additionally, you will act as the analytical lead for Monthly Business Reviews, partner with Analytics Engineering to embed validated metrics into the Semantic Layer, and serve as a key analytical partner to leadership by stress-testing strategic assumptions and supporting pricing and commercial modeling.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in causal inference and econometric methods, strong experimental design skills, and fluency in SQL and Python. The ability to transition between deep technical work and strategic communication is essential, as is experience partnering with cross-functional teams and a strong commercial instinct. Comfort in forming and defending a point of view, curiosity about AI and automation, and excitement about building tools that scale analytical capability are also important.
