Staff Backend Software Engineer | Fraud Prevention
Wellhub is seeking a Staff Backend Software Engineer to join our Fraud Prevention team in Brazil. This remote position offers the opportunity to work from anywhere within the country. Our team is dedicated to identifying, preventing, and eliminating fraudulent activities within the Wellhub platform, collaborating closely with various departments to safeguard our services.
In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, product management, and engineering, to develop and implement new technologies and features aimed at fraud prevention. Your responsibilities will include building production systems to proactively prevent fraud, prototyping and scaling anti-fraud solutions, ensuring high code quality standards, and participating in incident resolution and troubleshooting in the production environment. Additionally, you will take ownership of critical features, monitor engineering service level objectives (SLOs) and product key performance indicators (KPIs), and mentor other engineers.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or possesses equivalent practical experience. You should be a proactive learner eager to master new technologies and resolve challenging technical issues. Experience in developing RESTful web services, proficiency in Java or Kotlin (with Golang experience being a plus), and familiarity with SQL/NoSQL technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or DynamoDB are essential. Additionally, experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers like Kafka, AWS SQS, or AWS SNS, as well as a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, microservices, high-volume distributed systems, and cloud-based architectures (AWS experience is advantageous), are required. Strong communication skills in both English and Portuguese are also necessary.
